The colonizer/colonized relationship is by nature an unequal one that benefits the colonizer at the expense of the colonized. The long-term result of such dispossession is institutionalized inequality. It involves unequal power relations 4, and includes policies and/or practices of acquiring full or partial political control over other people or territory, occupying the territory with settlers, and exploiting it economically.Ĭolonization is the invasion, dispossession, and subjugation of one people to another. 3Ĭolonialism is an intentional process by which a political power from one territory exerts control over a different territory.
